Challenge

Microchip Technology Incorporated, located in Colorado Springs, CO, is a leading provider of smart, connected, and secure embedded control solutions. The Microchip Technology facility housing approximately 1,000 employees, which means they also must accommodate parking areas for employee vehicles. A combination of inclement weather and regular wear and tear caused distress to portions of the parking lot. Also, the lack of regular maintenance by the previous management, forced the need for service. Additionally, existing extended curbs and tight areas were causing restrictions to traffic flow.

Solution

DCPS previously conducted over 200 linear feet of colored striping for the Colorado Springs facility loading dock areas and performed stucco repairs on the building due to holes caused by hail damage. David Moravek, Security and Facilities Manager at Microchip Technology Inc., due to the quality of work previously performed by DCPS, Moravek reached out to have DCPS evaluate the conditions of the parking lot and provide recommendations.

After a thorough examination of the affected areas, the DCPS Asphalt and Concrete team developed a detailed plan for the necessary repairs. To ensure the client received the required services while staying within budget, DCPS developed a two-phased approach – addressing the highest traffic areas first.

The split-year plan included a 2″ mill and overlay of over 355,000 square feet of parking lot surface and replacement of existing weathered and deteriorating wooden curbs with concrete curbs. Additionally, DCPS realigned driveway conditions and islands to aid in increasing traffic flow.

When asked about his experience working with DCPS, David said, “working with DCPS is amazing – it is great to work with a company that is on time, on schedule, on budget, and delivers quality work.” He continues also mentioned that the facility team has received extensive positive feedback from employees on the repairs and how the change has improved the overall aesthetic of the property.

“Working with DCPS is amazing. I have received more compliments on the crew’s performance and how quickly they completed the project than with any other work I have had completed on this facility.”
David Moravek, Security and Facilities Manager at Microchip Technology Inc.
