Job Type: Full Time

Pay: Base Salary $100,000 – $110,000 annually

Job Description:

The Risk & Safety Manager will develop and manage DCPS’s Environmental, Health & Safety program and the Insurance and Risk management program.

Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Conducts risk assessments, collecting and analyzing documentation, statistics, reports, and market trends.
  • Establishes policies and procedures to identify and address risks in the organization’s services and divisions
  • Reviews and assesses risk management policies and protocols; makes recommendations and implements modifications and improvements.
  • Develop and implement, for each DCPS division, a complete set of health, safety, and accident prevention rules/guidelines, along with initial and ongoing training programs to ensure compliance.
  • Responsible for knowing and ensuring compliance with all relevant Federal, State, and Local regulations regarding health and safety guidelines, and will be the company’s primary point of contact for all relevant Federal, State, and Local departments/bureaus, OSHA notifications, visitations, and action planning.
  • Responsible for managing and providing oversight of the DCPS safety program
  • Provides appropriate safety, health, accident prevention, and investigation training for all DCPS managers and supervisors.
  • Performs annual inspection of all DCPS workplaces to assure safe and healthful conditions for workers. Prepares appropriate notices to management for abatement of identified hazards.
  • Investigates accidents/incidents and develops measures to prevent/reduce recurrences.
  • Responsible for a reporting/recording all accident to the Safety Management Information System (SMIS)in a timely, complete, and accurate manner.
  • Assure that claims for injuries and illnesses posted in SMIS are posted in the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) log.
  • Recommends and implements risk management solutions such as insurance, safety and security policies, business continuity plans, or recovery measures.
  • Reviews and analyzes metrics and data such as cash flow, inventory, breakage, and employee activity that could uncover fraudulent behavior.
  • Drafts and presents risk reports and proposals to executive leadership and senior staff.
  • Reviews claims history of workers’ compensation clients.
  • Directs investigation of workplace accidents, general liability, and auto accidents.
  • Participates in the Captive Insurance Program requirements like seminars and training.
  • Performs other duties as directed by DCPS senior management.

Required Skills & Abilities: 

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and manage all aspects of Environmental, Health & Safety and Insurance and Risk Management programs for a company with a similar employee and equipment count.
  • Thorough understanding of relevant Federal, State, Local regulations and policies and best practices of health and safety programs and risk management.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • English and Spanish bilingual very helpful but not a requirement.
  • Excellent mathematical and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and related software to prepare reports and policies.


  • Bachelor’s degree in safety engineering, risk management or related field.
  • Successful completion of company course on workers’ compensation underwriting.
  • At least 5 years of experience in the safety field.
  • Valid driver’s license to travel to clients’ facilities.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
